Seattle Beach Burn, April 99

Thanks, everybody!

Thank you to everybody who came out and helped us bring Black Rock City to Seattle for a night. We truly felt like we were back home last night. Thanks to everybody for bringing wood and drums and smiles and hugs and flaming ropes and crazy things to throw in the fire and burning things to throw around and glowing things and everything that makes Burning Man great. Also many thanks to the police and fire departments for being tolerant of us.

Details

When: Saturday, April 24th
6:00 PM for dinner
We'll be kindling the bonfire early in the afternoon, and should have it really big by 7 or 8.
Where: Golden Gardens Park near Shilshole Here's a map better than Sidewalk's. (Thanks Janine!)

We've reserved the south-most fire ring and surrounding area. If in doubt, look for a big silver bus near a big fire.

Parking: Apparently the police will show up around dusk to lock the gates to the park's own parking lot. So at this point we'll need to move our cars. The adjacent lot for the dock(?) was suggested. Carpooling can't hurt.
What to Bring: Friends, smiles, drums, wood, any food you want to cook, crazy-costumes, blankets, warm clothes, your immortal soul, wood pallettes, glow-sticks, body-paint, etc.

Updates

4/23/99: We've obtained a large quantity of oak to burn. We expect this to burn much hotter and for longer than the pine we were planning on getting. As such we will be starting the bonfire earlier. We hope to have a good blaze going by 7 or 8, but to some extent we'll be playing it by ear. If you have experience with burning oak pallets, and have any advice, please contact us. The weather is holding strong!

4/22/99: The forecast for Sunday just took a sharp turn towards wet, but if you trust your weather-guy, Saturday's still bright and happy. Trust your weather-guy. Perhaps something in bright orange tomorrow?

4/20/99: Keep those Hawaiian shirts on, folks. You're doing a great job. It might be raining right now, but the forecast is all clear for the weekend. We've reserved a big area at the park to play in, and we're gathering wood. All systems are go. Just keep the bright shirts on!
