Water on the Playa

As Black Rock's favorite underground newspaper says:

Piss clear!

Black rock city is extremely hot and dry. Many of us will also be engaging in activities which will dehydrate us even more rapidly than we would otherwise. Dehydration is dangerous. We should all be aware of how much water we are drinking and watching out for our friends to make sure they are drinking enough.

If your piss is not clear and abundant, you are probably not drinking enough water. We recommend that you budget 2-4 gallons per person per day, depending on the amount of bathing and cooking you would like to do. That is 14 - 28 gallons per person if you are going to be attending for the entire week.

We will be bringing a large number of 5-gallon office-cooler style water jugs for our camp. We will also have several dispensers for easy access to them, and a system for showering using these containers. We encourage you to also bring 5-gallon office-cooler syle water jugs to integrate into our water system. Our coolers should be compatible with any standard jugs you bring.

Our source is Pure WaterTM, and our contact is Tom. To place an order, you can reach him during the day on his cell phone at (206) 730-2358. If you say you are with Ethan Zoller's group, you will get the special price of $3.65 / jug (60 cents off retail), and possibly deeper discounts for large orders.

We also strongly recommend that everybody bring a personal hydration system to help them keep hydrated in the desert. They are readily available at outdoor retailers and bicycle shops. In our experience this is the only way to stay hydrated during the hot playa days.
