A Tent Called Wisdom

Seekers of the divine mystery may use our camp as a resource to explore the divine within themselves.

The tent we call Wisdom provides two avenues for self exploration:

Meditation

Wisdom is stocked with soft places to sit, ear plugs, and instructions for meditation. We will humbly attempt to instruct seekers in anapana and vipassana meditation via these simple instructions:

Anapana:

  1. Sit in a restful, alert position with eyes closed.

  2. Observe your breath as it enters and leaves your body.

  3. Allow yourself to relax and your breath to slow and deepen.

  4. When your mind wanders, smilingly bring it back to your breath.

Maintain this for as long as you are able to in a relaxed and pleasant manner.  When in doubt, smile and bring your attention back to your breath.

Vipassana:

  1. Sit in a restful, alert position with eyes closed.

  2. Starting with the top of your head, become aware of the sensations throughout your body.

  3. Pay attention to each inch of your body in sequence.  After the head, the neck, then the face, then the throat, then the arms and hands one by one, then the chest and abdomen, then the back from top to bottom, then the seat, then each thigh both front and back, the knees, the lower legs, and the feet.

  4. When you have reached the end of your body, turn around and scan in reverse until you return to the top of the head.  Continue for as long as you are able.

  5. Whenever your mind wanders, smilingly bring it back to the sensations in your body.

Every sensation you may experience is to be attended to.  Heat, cold, itching, tingling, vibrating, pressure of clothing, a slight breeze - all are equally valid and equally "correct" to attend to.  The goal is calm awareness of one's body and one's surroundings.

The Hookah of the Mind

In addition to self-directed meditation, Wisdom will provide the Hookah of the Mind, a 10-tentacled Mind Machine which uses light and sound to bring seekers to a calm, creative, insightful state.

The Hookah produces rhythmic sound and light at a certain frequency.  By doing so, it slowly brings the brainwaves of the seeker to the same frequency, thus changing the seeker's mental state.  Our Hookah will generally be set to produce Theta waves which are found in deep meditation, dreaming, and the twilight state between sleep and consciousness.  Our seekers will be in their most creative, receptive state when using the Hookah, and are encouraged to think upon their experiences on the Path of Transformation  to allow the changes made there to take hold deep within their psyches.
