TianAnMen

TianAnMen, literally the Heavenly Sky Gate, is a huge Ming barrier protecting the Forbidden City in the heart of Beijing. A huge portrait of Chairman Mao hangs above the gate itself. Across from the chairman is the infamous Tiananmen square, a large public open space immediately in front of the people's congress building. Every dawn and dusk a flag is ceremoniously raised and lowered in the square. Up and coming communists anxiously watch the pomp and circumstance while flipping through their little red books of Mao quotations.
