On Being Mez

staticlivre.gif (2859 bytes)

I'm not The Mez you're looking for.

The True Mez is not a person.   The True Mez is an ideal.  An abstraction.  A process.  A way of being.  More adjective than noun.  More adverb than verb.  More question than statement.  The True Mez can not be taught so much as pointed at.  The True Mez is something you have to find on your own.  All we can do is suggest a few places to start your search.

So how did I end up with his name?

Well, what do you get the guy who has everything for his birthday?  My friends were pretty stumped, till inspiration struck, like a bolt out of the blue.  And being a pretty exceptional bunch, they didn't shy away from outlandish ideas like "his very own personal cult".  I mean, who doesn't want to be worshiped?

So you want your own religion, eh?

Be careful!  It can go to your head faster than a plastic bottle of tequila in a hot tub.  All that adoration.  A website.  A place to pontificate.   People who will do your will because it amuses them to worship you.  A little "Divine Being" after your name on a business card.  It can be a challenge to handle all this without thinking you're, well, God!

Still, if you're going to be the figurehead of a fringe cult in the dying days of the 20th century, you might as well enjoy it!  That's what I always say.

So here's the official church web site.  From the home page you can get around pretty easily.   I disavow all knowledge of the contents of the Scriptures which my ostensible followers  have penned in my name, and purportedly in faithful rendition of my words. On the other hand, the Words of mez section you're in right now is all my own - a small concession to the titular god of this religion granted by our Patron Saint of Lost Reptiles and Hallucinations, Nancy.  And if you really want to know what I think of things, read the quick summary of mezism.

Of course, if you're going to be at Burning Man check out the Church of Mez Pavilion, we'd love to pick up some new followers, or at least their souls.

Everything we profess is completely serious.

Everything we profess is in utter jest.

Can you tell the difference?
